I'm considering buying a light to mount on one of my carbines. I've read and re-read reviews for Streamlight, Surefire, Scorpion, etc. Is it really necessary to spend $75-100 for a good light? This one will be for home defense only, not daily field use.

Get a Surefire G2 for $35 and a way to mount it. This will give you a durable, inexpensive light to let you see what works for you and what doesn't. The bulb is not rifle recoil rated, but they have stood up to that for quite a few people.

I can't find that tape. Where did you find it? All I have is generic duct tape-just not the same.

Perfect! And you could attach a laser sight to the bottom magnet.

WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT?

I had originally taped the laser to the top of the flashlight so it would be lined up with the bore, but I guess it was lined up a little to closely because I blew that off with the very first shot. I usually do my best 'inventing' after a few shots and a couple beers. Clearly didn't have enough beer that day or I would have figured out the magnet is a good laser mount.

Now I have to save up some more money for another laser.

It so happens one of our local sport shops has the G2 on sale right now, I'll get one this week -thanks.
