I had one when I was young and single. Now, I want to get another one, but I'm not allowed to, she keeps telling me that she is not going to come to the hospital and wait for the doctors to scoop my brains back into a helmet.
I can't get mad about it.....she thinks I have brains!!!

Steel you still have her fooled after all these years. Don't worry, we won't tell her.:D

I think she is just patronizing me!
Doh!, she outsmarted me again!
(actually, I got her on this one. I'm not that hard to outsmart. So ha, jokes on her!)
Wait,......that didn't come out right......

Hmmmm.....to be a regular customer at; to treat in an offensively superior, condescending manner. Yes I could see where that might be true.:D

...come to the hospital and wait for the doctors to scoop my brains back into a helmet.
It was my helmet that kept my brains inside my skull as I bounced along the road. The bike was totaled, my neck has been screwed-up for 20+ years, and every time I long for a new one my wife reminds me that she has the telephone number of the divorce lawyer etched into her consciousness!

I bought my first Harley living in Tucson AZ, when I was 21. Owned 5 bikes while I lived there. No helmet law, wore shorts and sandals the whole time. Ended up in Denver CO after the military. Bought a Harley Softail Custom. No helmet law. Now living in NC with a helmet law-sucks. Sold my last Harley, bought a Big Dog Chopper. Still wear sandals and shorts and have for 34 years on a bike. Ride in SC and FL-no helmet laws. I also have 20K miles on the Big Dog, so it's not a trailer queen, it gets ridden.

I've had that bike, not this particular one but looks identical, in the basement for 15 years now. I put it up one winter, and for one reason or another never took it out again. I only see it when I check up on the house once every year or two, so ... Did put a large metal pan, to catch oil, under the bike a few years ago as the gaskets had become too brittle.

Had a 2003 Harley Night Train...traded it in on a 05 Custom Fat Boy..Sold that bike last year with 4000 miles on it, don't ride enough to justify the payment..Maybe when I retire I will go for a Road King or something, till then I am fine with looking at your photo's:D

Similar thing happened to me Snide, I just got to where I wasn't riding enough and sold the bike. Mine was a 2001 Harley Sportster Sport. Had a good time blowing the wheels off geezers that called it a "girl's bike". Frankly, when I bought the bike I was 24 and weighed 165 lbs. I would have looked stupid on some huge dresser.
I've been toying with getting another bike. Think I'll probably go crotch-rocket this time, or at least go with a standard. Something Japanese or Italian, although the Buell 1125R (http://buell.com/en_us/bikes/sportbike/1125R/) looks interesting.

Rob I was at the HD dealer yesterday sitting on that bike. It's "bad" and all the road tests I've read say it's a really good bike. Buell just keeps getting better and better. I think this is the first one(except the Blast) that doesn't have a Harley engine.

The B-last was half a Harley engine. It was just a Sportster/Buell engine with one cylinder missing.

And it really looked weird with that cylinder block off plate covering the empty hole. Hasn't been a big seller from what I've seen(or not seen)-have you ever seen one on the road? Me neither.

When I bought my Sportster, I road the B-last first because it was my first bike and I didn't think I could handle the 1200cc motor. The salesman talked me out of it, and I'm glad he did.
The B-last was a good concept, it was just overpriced for the performance it offered up.

Hate to say it, but wouldn't you say most Harleys are overpriced(I've owned 4 so voice of experience) Basically you're buying the "name" and the "prestige" ofp a Harley. Just about any other bike(Goldwing-crotch rocket) does it better for less money and yeah they hold their value longer, but look what you have to pay to buy one. And now they have over built and the dealers are way overstocked with leftover models.

At first glance, I agree about the price of Harleys, but...
When I was shopping for bikes the first time around, I actually started comparing cruisers in a given price/cc range. Believe it or not, the Harley 883 was one of the best values IF you factored in things like:
lack of plastic parts (the smaller import cruisers often have way too much plastic, even plastic fenders)
brakes (most of the import cruisers had drum brakes on at least the rear)
country of origin (American labor costs more, and if you want American made you have to pay)
In many cases #1 and 2 were enough to at least even the playing field, if not give the HD the advantage. Remember that speed and performance aren't really part of the equation on a stock bike.
The problem with the B-last wasn't that it was a small inexpensive cruiser, but that it was (or at least looked like) a small EXPENSIVE crotch rocket. The thing was, IIRC, $5k+/- which would get you an import 600 that would blow it away. In that market things like plastic fenders (which, incidentally, even the B-last had) weren't as much of a concern.
Were I buying a new HD today, it would be either a
Sportster Nightster for $10k (http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/2009_Motorcycles/2009_Motorcycles.jsp?locale=en_US#/model/xl1200n)
Dyna Street Bob for $13k (http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/2009_Motorcycles/2009_Motorcycles.jsp?locale=en_US#/model/fxdb)
or a
Base Vrod for $15k (http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/2009_Motorcycles/2009_Motorcycles.jsp?locale=en_US#/model/vrscaw)
I think that the Vrod has crept back up to not being worth the price (although with a Yamaha Warrior being $17k now, it' might not be that bad), but the Nightster and Street Bob don't really have any competition on the new-with-warranty market if that's the look you're after.

Compared to other takers
22/100 You scored 1 on moxie, higher than 22% of your peers.
11/100 You scored -1 on zeal, higher than 11% of your peers.
1/100 You scored -7 on pomp, higher than 1% of your peers.
You have the traits of a sensible and effective rider, with an utter lack of concern for image, so you should feel comfortable riding a sensible, effective, and hideous bike like the VStrom.
You are the rider most likely to Rhino-Coat your bike for the sake of practicality.

Very nice. Looks really light with a Sportster motor-probably moves right along-any problems stopping with just a back brake?:D
