Anyone else here a CIGAR lover?

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y75/melensdad/2.jpg

I know, they stink. I know, smoking them makes the wife #####y. I know, they are banned from bars, restaurants and airplanes.

I still love a good cigar. Smoked 2 La Gloria Cubana Serie R #7s yesterday. It was a great day! That is just one great smoke, full bodied but not at all harsh, very rich mouth feel and great flavor. I love maduro wrappers, a Partagas Black Label Crystal is another great one, Ghurka Triple Ligero is simply amazing. And its just tough to beat a Cohiba. Victor Sinclair's Triple Corojo is pretty good for a modest price smoke, and the only cigar made of filler, binder and wrapper that all use the rich Corojo tobacco. Carlos Torano Exodus 1959, wow!

Seems like a fine cigar and a nice gun just go together :D

So, any other cigar smokers here?

I tend to be more of a pipe connoseuir myself for those times when I can be by myself, but I have enjoyed a cheap cigar now and then. I've never been much of a tobacco fan, as I absolutely hate cigarettes with a passion.

I absolutely hate cigarettes with a passion.Funny but so do I.

I love to smoke a cigar, smoke 4 to 6 a week. But I can't get used to the stench of a cigarette. Never even smoked a cigarette. I just think they stink.

Your 'friend' has some good taste. I see some Rocky Patel vintage in there, Ashton reserve and what looks like Punch Gran Cru as well. Of course that is in addition to a boatload of Montecristos and some other more 'common' brands.

Very nice!

As long as we are playing show & tell, my case is not fancy, its tucked in a back room where my wife won't complain about it, but I've got a few boxes tucked away. A bunch of ACID, a couple different Cohibas, some Partagas, Romeo y Julietta, Macanudo, Punch, Arturo Fuente, El Rey, La Gloria Cubana, and some cheap Helix, etc. I've got some drawers with flavored cigars, stockpiled a dozen boxes of Kaluha now that Drew Estates took those out of production, also have a drawer of loose premiums from Zino (3 types), Rocky Patel (4 or 5 types), Ghurka (8), CAO (5 different types of "black", 1 type of 'VR,' sadly only 1 type of 'Anniversary'), etc. All in quantities of less than 50.

I use a Cigar Oasis XL and have both digital and analog humistats to track the humidity.

Got to start somewhere!

You probably didn't start shooting by buying a finely engraved double rifle either, but you can work your way up to one over time.

Yes she does. And her sister has concealed carry permits from New Mexico, Utah, and Florida and is applying for an Indiana permit too. :) I should probably also mention that she works as a manager in one of my cigar stores too!

I used to smoke "Backwoods Blacks". I loved the smell/taste of those cheepo's, had several young girls take them out of my hands at bars and smoke them. One wouldn't give it back, so I told her that is a "Monika Lawinsky Special" and she said "So". Problem was, she was young enough to be one of my daughters.

At the rate these "porn posters" are bomb-barding us, some of them will make us look like newbies to the site.

Something has gotta be done about that crap.

Yep and I think it's messing up the new membership count too. Not only should they be banned, their posts need to be deleted.

I'm a moderator at another forum and we are currently getting bombarded with the automated "spam bots" that post porn/viagra/etc advertisements. It seems like they run in cycles, we have very few problems for a few months then we get slammed with 20 new members in short order, many of them end up being automated spambots.

We're fortunate on my board in that we have 8 moderators and an international membership so our forum has someone on line virtually 24 hours a day. A lot of it is just getting people to report the spam quickly. Each of our moderators gets an email instantly so even if they are not on the forum, their email gets a message and they can come to the forum, ban the spambot & delete the post.

As this forum grows, I'm sure Mr. K will be able to name some loyal members to take on moderation duties and it will be an easier thing to manage.

One good think is that this is actually very robust software he chose to use, its the same one that we use at my forums and the administrator has a lot of power to block various spambots from posting before they start. So if you think it is bad, I have to tell you all it could be worse!!!

But back to cigars!!! :D

Ok, since we're back on track...

What's your favorite drink with your favorite cigar? I have heard that certain whiskeys, wines or bourbons can actually enhance a cigar flavor and vice versa.

In my younger days, Malboro and Budweiser were my best combo..... :D

I like to think I am much more "refined" now. (Go ahead McQ, I left it wide open for you)

refined: to remove impurities or coarse elements from; to make(manners, language, taste, expression) more delicate or polished; to make more subtle and efficient; to achieve greater subtlety or purity in meaning or effect.
I have never and would never, stoop to calling you more delicate, polished or more subtle. I think you're more of a gentleman than those qualities would ever imply to those of us that are less informed to your true inner qualities that remain hidden to the greater populace as a whole. And that's my short answer on that subject.;)

Whisky? Mine used to be a special by Austen Nichols called "Wild Turkey, Single Barrel Select" PURE Whisky, hand picked and labeled by hand as to what "Rick", "Barrel", "Alcohol Content", ect, and NO LIME WATER. They don't import it here so had to go two states away to get it. When ever I happen to be at some party now, if there is "Makers Mark" I will have that. But don't drink or party much now.
(Funeral is tomorrow!) :disappear:

Seems to me there is not one drink that is good with cigars.

A mild cigar like an Ashton Imperial won't hold up well to a robust liquor, nor will a robust full bodied cigar like a Ghurka Triple Ligero match well with a Reisling. Mild needs to be paired with mild and robust with full bodied.

Experimentation is required, and that makes it all that much more enjoyable.

... I smoked a Swisher Sweet once, does that count?????? ;)

I quit smoking cigarettes after my 2nd heart attack about 12 years ago and I smoke nothing but cigars now. I can breath much better and can physically do almost anything I want now. :)

I'm a Havana cigar fiend, especially for the Cohiba Exquisitos because of their size and taste. But since all my friends have moved away from Florida, it's hard to get any real Cohiba's here unless you are well connected and rich, of which I am neither! I have settled in with the Habano Oscuro La Fuerza made in Nicaragua by Tabcalera Cubana S.A.. They are an old-line Cuban family that escaped during the revolution and these cigars only sell for just under $10 each delivered.
:dancingbanana:

But... I generally smoke Swisher Sweets or a similar shelf cigar when I go to the rifle range. Mostly because I'm always dropping my cigar, breaking it off clenched in my teeth, or they roll off the table and somebody steps on them. It's too expensive to take the good cigars out there and end up trashing several of them. If you accidentally waste a box of Swisher Sweets, you haven't lost any serious money.

I also quit smoking cigarettes about 3 years ago (after one pack a day for 40), fortunately not because of something so serious as a heart attack; I just couldn't breathe well anymore and felt that I was on the verge of something much worse like emphysema, COPD or something like that. I had been smoking the occassional Cuban over the years, usually a Cohiba Robusto which I had the good fortune to acquire on my travels. After I quit the cigs my lungs started to heal and I felt much, much better. Also, I was soon able to actually taste the cigars and began sliding down the slippery slope of collecting cigars. I fell into a great cigar forum online and soon became a regular, tasting different brands and learning more about them. Within a year (my friend) acquired the Aristocrat humidor in the picture and he started filling it up with all of what you see in the pics. The only non-CC I smoke is the occassional Tatuaje or anything from Don Pepin.

My friend and I also fell into a buying club that enables us to enjoy our favorites without costing us an arm and a leg. For example, the Exquisitos you mention would run us around $170 a box. That is, if one of us was willing to risk such a purchase, which we are not any longer, of course.

I'm in a club as well, the "father in law club"....Every time I see my wife's father he has a few more for me to try, he gave me a very nice humidor for christmas filled with Don Tomas's (i think that's how you spell it)....But for the money and all the NICE brands compared to I still can't seem to topple Punch as my favorite..

I still can't seem to topple Punch as my favorite..I was talking to a guy I met today, his favorite brand is also Punch. I can't say that I've smoked very many of them so I guess I'll have to spend a little more time with the brand. Maybe it will become another one of my favorites.

Here is what you'll have to look forward to. The first puffs are cedary like a good classic Cuban, with just a hint of spice. The start is quite mild but the power increases little by little. In the second third, You will feel some leather notes and the stick is getting stronger, it’s still medium-bodied though. The final third is rather earthy and close to full-bodied. Nice flavor, and for 6 to 7 bucks a stick how can you go wrong!

(Disclamer) Although I may have been able to somewhat describe some of the above..I stole the above quote on the Punch Cigar from a cigar review forum here on the internet....LOL :D

Having said that, I do agree with the above review 100%!

That ain't nothing...Some of those fella's talk about Cigars like High School Love..LOL

My father in Law speaks all the verbage and at first I thought that's funny and kinda chuckled at him..After a month or so and about 10 or 12 Cigars later, it started to make since...Even now when I smoke a nice Cigar, I love the different taste and textures, the draw the feel....One serious let down that will get the trash can for me..."bite" or a strong aftertaste....I like a mild, medium body, smooth drawing cigar while sitting on the back deck watching the boys run around the yard while watching the birds and squirrels on the feeders. Also a frozen mug with Killians Irish Red in close proximety..:D

Had a stressed out sort of day today. For some odd reason I woke up at 3:30am. The little dog decided that since I was awake, but laying quietly in bed trying to go to sleep that it would be a good idea to keep me awake, so he jumped on me and starting to pat at my head. The big dog then became restless so by 4am I was downstairs drinking coffee. Had to take my daughter to visit a high school 2 counties away, of course while I was awake she decided it lollygag around and we left the house late, so I had to drive like a bat out of hell to get there on time. Off to my little haven after that and smoked a really nice Rocky Patel Old World Reserve Torpedo. Good way to relax! Now I'm heading back to get my daughter, she thinks she wants to attend the high school she is visiting, I can't believe she's considering it, given the long drive. But its a good school and she has her heart set on attending an Ivy League college so this high school will help her get in. Besides, its the only high school in the area that has a fencing team and she competes at junior level in Saber. Oh well, off to get her, such is the life of a dad!?!
