If this did happen, I could see lots of un-friendly comments. However, if it was only a rating scale, with no comments, then it could be a little more fair, but less effective.
I could see a big can of worms opening up with this, but it is up to the Big Guy.

I also had a few of the same thoughts. Like if you give a shop a 5 because you had a personality conflict with somebody there, it doesn't really tell the whole story. But if the owner is bashing other brands, which he doesn't sell, based on his opinion that they're bad brands, or the ones that are pushing their abc brands that are as good as those xyz brands, with out specific hard data-just based on their opinion. And just as long as it didn't turn into Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge debate. It could be that: I went to Acme gun store and this is what happened to me. Thoughts?

Hey Steel,
Have You ever been to Whitaker Guns over around Owensboro KY? That's the best dag gone gun store across the creek (Kentucky) in my opinion!
OOOPS, sorry to de-rail the post Partsman..I think some kinda rating system is a great idea, not sure how it would be initiated on here...What I mean is, Charles Daly/ KBI does count on the vendors/retailers...I don't know what those same vendors would think about a poor rating from a customer or two on the CD forum..
Something like this seems best suited for open type forums such as Shotgun World or one of the others out there...I think I actually seen something like this on one of the others, and it got very little play.
If I have a bad experience with a certain gun shop/vendor...I simply don't post about them or give them any props on many of the internet forums I visit. If I have a good experience with a certain gun shop/vendor I am sure to give 'em a plug just as I have done above with Whitaker Guns in Owensboro Kentucky!!
I am not shooting down your idea in NO way....I think the idea is a good one just don't see how it would work here without ruffling feathers....

No Snide, I have never been to Whitaker's, as Owensboro is quite a ways from me. I use Classic Firearms and Archery here in Lexington almost exclusivley, as they have always treated me right and give me very fair deals. I've bought from almost all of them, but Classic is my favorite.

Could there be any libel or slander issues that anybody would be liable for?

Maybe it would just be better to post the dealers/stores that you've had good situations in or that you had checked around and this dealer gave you the best deal. Like myself, I highly recommend A1 Pawn in Goldsboro NC. I checked all other dealers in a 50 mile radius and he beat all their prices by $100 when I bought my CDM4LE. Something like that.

It might be a good idea if this was to be a thread that there would be some guidelines that would be enforced for posting both good and bad with all the facts possible. A this was my attitude when I walked in and this is what I asked for (and how), and this is how I was treated, and this is how I responded (Or REACTED) type of things. I have had these things come around and bite me in the "Back side before". Then I had to eat a lot of CROW, and it doesn’t taste good at all.

Gramps-what Chad says is true. You have to be very careful what you post on an open forum against a business, because for whatever reason, you had a one bad experience and then posted it on public display for the world to see. It could have been a bad employee that was fired the next day and the problem was solved. Or the employee you dealt with was having some kind of personal problem that was affecting their attitude or you had a personality clash or........on and on. So the 50 customers before you had a good experience and highly recommend that store, but somehow you didn't and now you're bad mouthing the dealer on a forum. Like I said, maybe it's better to post the dealers you had good experiences with in a certain area and if someone in your area wants to ask about another store they could PM you, rather than bashing someone on an open forum.

IE: For what I said earlier, A BAD EXPERIANCE CAN BE OUR OWN FAULT. If you continue to get a bad experience every time, then take a GOOD look at whose fault it is, and if need be move on. I have had an attitude before and found out later that by not browsing that store, I screwed myself out of something good. It is not good business for one to bash another, especially if we do not know their conditions either. Yes there are bad stores, but I don't think we need to dwell on the negative. As for the super mega stores, we all know what they are like, but I have run into some good informative ones there to before. I feel it is better for us to look for the good in others.

answers like this is kinda why i never got into message boards, without knowing anything that happened, you assume its my fault.
when you walk into a supposed good shop and ask to see 3 differnt guns and the kid has to be directed gun by gun on the one you want to look at.
when he gives me the gun he never even bothered to open the action to see it is clear something i ALWAYS !! do no matter if i know the gun is empty i always double check.
the kid did not want to sell me a gun once he handed me the gun he walked over 20' away to talk to his freinds, i kept haveing to call him back. after a third gun i chose one and asked to start the paperwork to do the background check. after i got the first paper done he went back to office that i could see into he sat down for about 3-4 min without even touching the phone and then came out and said that he couldnt get threw to the state. when i called him out on it he then tried say he called and blame me that i didnt see him well enough to say that .
so tell me how is any of this my fault.
around my area there is a pretty fair amount of gun shops and i dont need to give my money to an unsafe shop....

UH OH, I'm sorry, I did not mean any thing towards you. Sorry I can see how you might take it that way now, Thanks for pointing that out.
It was something that some times I have to take a look at myself and how I handled my own situation. OK this is one that "It's all about me". ;)
Done.

partsman I completely understand your negative feelings towards this gun shop. But, ask yourself-Is it the overall gun store or is it specifically this one employee, who wasn't doing his job? Did you ask to speak to the owner/manager? I definitely would have gone to the top of the food chain on that one. No excuse for his action or lack of action. Simply wasn't doing his job, maybe he would be better suited for handing out french fries at the local McDs, you know what I mean?
