I am thinking about buying an m-5 for my CCW. I am about to take the CCW course and I want a 45 and I want a small one. I also want something thats a step up quality-wise from the Taurus millennium 45 I almost bought.

Well, my pharmacist showed me his Para Warthog (which I love) and he said the M-5 ultra-x is just about the same, but a little cheaper. Now, I have never carried before so I wonder if the beaver tail will dig in my back. Is this something to worry about? Also, is the grip too wide to fit IWB. I live is t-shirt and shorts land so I'm a bit worried about printing. Any info from someone who has one will be very welcomed.
Thanks!

I have fairly large hands, which is why I liked the Warthog. You see it has this magazine extension that lets me squeeze my last finger on the grip. See here... http://www.paraord.com/product/WHX1045Rphoto.jpg

I hate shooting with my pinkey off the grip. You think the M-5 will let me get it up on there? It seems to have a little lip on the bottom...

I wonder how the grip area of the M5 is compared to the ECS?

I know on my ECS, it fits great in my medium/large hands.

I don't have the exact measurements here at home, but we have checked this very point, and the width of the Hi-Cap M5's are damn near the same width as a single stack steel 1911 with walnut grips.

What about the length of the grip? Can you still fit all fingers on grip like the ECS?

That's amazing that the width is that close to a single stack. That is the one thing I never liked about Hi-caps. It's like holding a pop can in your hands.

Well there ya go again...giving me even more things to want! :D

Well I decided to go ahead and get this pistol. I drove all over town yesterday to many of the CD dealers listed on the main site and none of them carry any CD pistols. On Sunday I asked my FFL to get me a price on one direct and he says he is working on it..... All the normal on-line stores I do business with are out of stock. The only store I found online that has one is thegunsource.com, has anyone done business with them before? It sure is difficult to buy this pistol.

Even gunbroker only has 1 or 2 M5's, and no compacts.

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you that the status at thegunsource went to backorder after I bought mine. So I got the last one they had~ (it shipped today)

I'm still a bit suprised about how hard this pistol is to find, I hope that doesn't mean anything.....

okay , so this is kind'a like a "Pre-Charles Daly" Charles Daly.....if there is such a thing.....it is a Commander - size M5 hi-cap double-stack magazine .45 acp made by BUL with the BUL stamp instead of the CD stamp that's on them now.....VERY high quality, close tolerance, yet also VERY accurate and reliable....low recoil, fast action, never a hiccup ( 500 rounds so far ) , and has a great feel as there is no added grip panel....give them a try, I KNOW you will love 'em.....this one prints less than two (2) inch ragged hole with 10 shots, then there is my always present/my fault wild one that usually jumps off to the left about 1/2 inch off , and nearly always the same place - I know it's me, but for that kind' accuracy, I really don't care.....
by the way, I need a few extra mags. if y'all have any

That is definitely a pre-Daly M5. It's easy to tell when you see the squared off trigger guard. That is the frame that a previous owner used to sell and also was the one used when Bul made the polymer frames for Kimber.

Hi-cap mags are available on charlesdaly.com. Go to the accessories page and scroll down to item number CDGR9536. Click on "Buy" and you'll be good to go.

You got it Steel

So did you get it? And can you fit all 3 fingers on the front of the gun?

Inquiring minds want to know. :D

EDIT: I've also been wondering it the grip extension for the warthog would work on the mag for the M-5 Ultra X. Hmmm...

seems to be a little resurgance of demand for the M5 Ultra x around here. I can't find even a .45 version at this time and have to admit I am tempted to get a Rock Island compact since i can't find any version of the CD compacts, either M5 or Armscor.

Will try the local Gun show this weekend.

Yeah I got it, It fits my hand just fine. I don't need any grip extension. I love the feel of the gun, the problem is I haven't been able to shoot it... I got to pop off about 30 rounds in the middle of the desert. I had no targets so i can't speak of accuracy, kick was less than I expected. I'll get some real range time with it by the end of Feb.

Nice. Thanks for the response to my PM regarding those...

Any changes to the gun versus the last stock you had in? As far as color, mechanics, engraving, anything?

Ok cool, just wanted to check. Do you have any idea if a mag extension designed for a Para mag would work on an Ultra X mag?

Like this-
http://www.pistolcraft.com/picts/P10.jpg

Fingertip Extensions for Para-Ordnance P10, 12, 13, or 14 mags.
Does not affect the capacity, but gives you a better grip on the smaller Para-Ordnance pistols.
