View Full Version : The Rumors are True!

Charles Daly
01-29-2010, 11:36 AM
To all our friends, fans, supporters and consumers of Charles Daly and by extension, KBI products, I regret to inform you that the rumors of our demise are true.

KBI is going out of business and closing its doors, effective today.

I don't want to go into each and every detail as to why this has occurred, except to say that there have been a multitude of events over the past five years that have contributed to our current situation.

For those of you with ongoing service requirements, please be advised that we are currently negotiating with several companies that will be performing after-sale service of Charles Daly, CD Defense and Jericho firearms. As soon as we have finalized a contract with one of these companies we will post the name, address and contact details of that company so you will know who to contact to obtain service on your KBI firearm.

We will allow this forum to remain open as long as all discourse remains civil. If any posts deteriorate to a level that is beneath the standards of this forum then the forum will be closed to all posters and will only exist for announcements from KBI.

Again, I wish to thank all of you that have supported our company, this forum and Charles Daly these past 20 years. This spells the end of KBI but I imagine it will certainly not mean the end of Charles Daly and CD Defense. Look for this excellent brand to resurface in the very near future.

Sincerely,

Bullwinkle

Very sad news indeed. Even though I just picked up my first charles daly, I quickly felt like I had become a part of a close family when I came to these forums. My prayers are with you Mr. K and your employees.

I may be reading a little bit too much into what you are saying, but I'm hoping that this is business move...and we'll see you back real soon!

I am very sad to hear this. Please post on AR15.com in the TAVOR thread to update the folks over there. There has been a large following of the project and many people are sad to see you close your doors.

This forum has been a good one for many of us here.
The G4 was to be my first Charles Daly, but sadly that went away.
You have been in the gun bizz to long to get out now.
I can see you picking up the good pieces and moving forward with what works and sells.
Thanks for being an honest represenative of the gun community. Will be looking for CD and the hopefully creation of a G4 in the future. You know it will work and sell.

This really is too bad. Mr. K you are one of a kind and the care you showed about your customers will not be forgotten. Throughout the firearms community it is well known how personally engaged your are in your customer's satisfaction. I only wish other companies would model their business practices after yours.

I wish you all of the luck in the world and will miss your products and this forum!

I am saddened by this news. The demise of your company is a statement on the current economic conditions in this country, and a loss to the firearms community.

I wish the best to you and all of the fine individuals at KBI/CD/CDD. I hope to see you back in the firearms business soon Mr. K. Your ethical business practices and your involvement in these forums were a bright spot in an industry with too few of those to mention.

My sentiments have been expressed by those before me.
If you are planning for the future take a look ao the REI business model.
Good luck to you all at KBI/Daly.

Yes this is very bad news. It hit me hard to hear that this great Company is closing their doors. My first FEG was a KBI. My first Hi power and 20 ga. pump shotgun are Charles Daly. And the first gun Forum I join was this one. As long this Forum is still open I will visit it every day like I have been doing since I join. Best of luck to you Mr. Kassnar and your employees.

I am saddened as well. I purchased a pair of AR lowers from Charles Daly Defense, and they have performed superbly in the two builds I made. All my dealings with your company were polite, professional and left me smiling.

I wish you all the best of luck, and hope that you have prosperous days in the future.

In a sea of mediocrity, your professionalism stood out. You accomplished a great deal. Be proud.

I've started typing a post several times in the last few days, but had to quit because I am saddened and frustrated by the circumstances. I am very sorry that it has come to this point, both for the management and all of the staff at CD and KBI. I hope that everyone will be able to recover from this situation with a minimum of difficulty and personal stress.

I personally want to thank Michael for everything that he has done and the extra effort that he has put into trying to make this work for all of us. It was noticed and appreciated by many people here. Hopefully one day in the near future, you will find yourself in a similar enterprise that will allow you to continue doing business in your own way and receive a just payday for your efforts. Until that time:

"May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you
In the palm of his hand."

it occurs to me, is there any way we can sign up for some sort of emailing list so that, if/when you are finally able to restart CD, we may be the first to be made aware of it? i think that would be awesome.

thanks for everything and good luck!

Best wishes Mr. K! I've seen on various forums and found on occasions your post to many questions regarding concerns and questions from consumers.

For an executive of a fine firearm company such as CD to take the time to talk and chat to some of your consumers is definitely a company I would stand by hands down.

Your business model exemplifies the true meaning of Customer Service and Satisfaction!

I hope that you and the staff at CD and KBI will be back soon. Crossing my fingers that this is just a business strategic move.

Best Wishes Mr. K, its an honor to have purchased my very first CDD rifle and will hope to find other CD firearms to add to my collection in the future.

It is a very unfortunate turn of events. I am only a new customer, however was looking forward to many years of happy hunting. I am hoping that Mr. K can answer what will and has happened to the Breech Bolt assembly that was sent in under warranty 3 months ago for my 12g Autoloader? I obviously have tried all CD numbers in an attempt to acquire information on my unreturned warranty item, but have only reached full mailboxes. What now? Anything would be more helpful than the "nothing" i have recieved.

I just purchased my first Charles Daley 12 ga auto and was very surprised when I looked up your site and saw the announcement. I have several shotguns which have long been out of production due to company closings. They all work fine and parts are available. I look forward to the announcement of a service company and a source of parts, should they be necessary. I am anxious to try the auto; just waiting for it to quit raining here in the northwest.

Good Luck!!

i am truly saddened to hear that CD/KBI is having problems.

i have a couple CD/KBI firearms that i really enjoy shooting.

the upper that "boss" sent me has held up very well and still a pleasure to shoot.

i have all ways found CD/KBI people excellent to work with and they really seem to care that the buyer is happy with his purchase.

i do hope when all is said and done that CD/KBI people -owners and employees alike find new, useful and profitable enterprises in the sporting firearms field.

best of luck to all CD/KBI folks!

You did. I just shot at 100 Sporting targets with mine and hit 57 on a tough course shooting the gun for the first time. It performed flawlessly. Mr K or some one at KBI said the 3" gun would handle 1oz loads and it did. I'm glad I have one.

Quote: Just a little FYI, some of our 12 gauge semi-autos are made in the same factory (same internals) as the H&R Excel. We needed additional capacity and this maker was kind enough to give us some of his production when we needed it.

Based on the above statement and research it appears H&R, NEF, Charles Daly and who knows how many others have been made with the same parts. The NEF I looked at was exactly the same as my 12 ga. CD so if somebody like Mr. Kassnar could provide a cross reference list, it would be very helpful. My CD 20 ga. from 3-4 yrs. ago is diff. so I imagine that list would be rather long.

If people knew they could find parts from other models, I don't think they would panic about owning a possible paper weight.

"Out of Buss." Mr. Kassnar' family appears to have been in this buss. for awhile and prob. sold the company after showing the highest sales in years. Happens every day.

I for one am not worried aobut the name on my guns since now days they are the same as many others with the only diff. being a name stamp. But I would like to know what other names carry the same parts for future ref.

Thanks

Hello everybody i have 1 question can you go to a gunsmith to get my CD fixed or it is better to wait for CD to get their contract with someone and send it to them?

You can go to a gunsmith. The cost of any repairs would be yours to bear, and should CD get a vendor squared away to handle their warranty work, you would most likely not be covered due to the work performed by a non contracted smith.

However, at this point in time I doubt that I would truly be concerned with the warranty aspect. There is no guarantee a vendor will be selected. My personal opinion is that the warranty is gone, and if anything does break on my CD it will be up to me to get it fixed.

There could be. Last few times I checked that page it was the out of business message. Wouldn't expect the message to change unless something else was going to change.
