Hello,

I have owned a Charles Daly .45 DDA for a few years now and have been very happy with the results. However, I do have a question regarding +P ammunition. My friend recently purchased a box of Hornady's 200 grain +P ammo for 45 auto. My owners manual says not to shoot +P ammunition and I haven't thus far. I was not intending on taking the rounds to the range, but using them for personal defense. Usually, I just keep the clip empty with one chambered, but recently I have been wondering on the reliability of this round for personal defense. Will it cause my firearm to be damaged in someway? I was initially told at the range that +P ammo would be okay for it as long as I was not shooting the rounds on a regular basis, but I thought I would like to ask the people who made the firearm considering I am putting my life on the line. Thanks for your help and your craftsmanship, I do love my DDA.

Welcome to the forums Tim!

I doubt you are going to get anyone from CD to come on here and say "sure, go ahead and shoot them, even though the manual says no"

Actually, very few manufacturers will state it is ok to shoot +P rounds in their guns. Reason is, even though the guns may very well handle these rounds just fine on a limited basis, there are too many users that will shoot +P rounds through it exclusively, and eventually, it may cause premature wear or breakage.

All I can say is personally, I have never found a quality handgun that cannot handle +P ammo, as long as you don't try to use +P only, but for personal defense rounds, I'm sure it will be fine. They also say no reloads, for liabilty reasons, but I shoot reloads almost exclusively, and have never had a problem. My range ammo is probably just a little lighter than factory rounds, but trust me, my personal defense rounds are a little hot. :D
