when shooting,

know whats around your backstop

i was shooting at a local sand pit today(shoot there alot)
well i was focusing on the target and fired and a split second later i felt a good slap on my right leg....felt like a bumble bee hitting me on a motorcycle at 65 MPH....come to find out where i had placed the target there was a pretty good sized stone about 3 inch's under the sand.....im calling myself lucky and dumb for not checking closer.....

Wow, that was a close one!

I had a similar experience while shooting with a friend many years ago. We were shooting 22's and he shot, it came back and hit him in the chin. He needed 2 stitches. We laughed about it afterwards, but it taught us a valuable lesson, that you learned as well.

Good advice indeed 636!!!

I had a smilar experience many years ago during a shoot that was organized by one of the firearm wholesalers. Manufacturers and importers were invited to set-up tables, display their products, and let the dealers shoot the guns that the makers brought.

I remember demonstrating a 9mm PJK-9HP and shooting at steel plates at approximately 15 to 25 yards.

It was a hot summer day and I was wearing shorts and sandals. I was standing at a table, shooting at the target, when time slipped into slow motion. I remember hearing the bullet hit the plate. I remember hearing the ricochet coming towards me and I vividly remember the fragment creasing the inside of my right thigh, burying itself in a muscle, just an inch away from the family jewels! Lucky indeed!

The lesson I learned that day was never to shoot ball ammo at steel plates!

I've been nailed with .22 several times, never any damage done.

Heres a video!

OUCH! LUCKY SOB!

I have always wondered how people got away with shooting steel plates. What kind of ammo can be used?

I have a neighbor that was shooting high power rifle into a sloped wet dirt berm. He didn't know that his bullets were richoceting 3/4 mile away towards a friends house. No damage was done. I don't know if it was because the dirt was wet or the slope of the dirt caused the bullets to fly but it happened and it is something else to keep in mind.
