What's the best way to go for sights on this critter? I don't have the $$ for a nice aimpoint or eotech yet and thought I'd iron sight it in the meantime. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Depends on what your end needs will be. Are you looking for folding sights or not? Are you looking at magnified optics or magnifiers or plan on using only red dots as they are?

If you're looking for folders, Troy is one of the lowest when its folded and more popular sights, but it's also one of the pricier in its range at about $140 retail. I prefer the Troy, as when I pull it up it locks nicely, already has the large aperature waiting for me (Not so with an ARMS 40LP), and is easy to get up if needed. Lots of people use ARMS sights, but I don't care for the spring lever, as I use gloves in the winter and don't care for tiny things I need to unlock to use. There are also lots of arguements either way for having the BUIS lock upright versus held upright with spring tension. You'll have to make your own decision.

If you don't need a folding rear, I prefer having my rear BUIS always up and ready to go. Larue makes an excellent one that is adjustable for windage only that is nicely priced, durable, and easily removeable by their lever system. I use and prefer an LMT rear BUIS. It's like an A2 sight and for the types of shooting I do I like having the availability of changing it. If I put in a 22 conversion kit, I have needed to do this before. If I choose to take the gun and do some informal DCM shooting at the club, I may need to make an adjustment to the elevation so the group strikes in the center of the bullseye versus my work zero. I also like to shoot silouette's at 400+ yards just for confidence builders, and I need the elevation for that. My gun has to do a lot of things, so I prefer the versatility. I'd be happy with either of these two fixed BUIS's.

Hope this helps.

check out combathunting.com. they seem to have scopes for just about all budget ranges for the AR15/M16. I have an order in for a 3-9x42 MARK III TACTICAL SERIES P4 which I can't wait to get my hands on. it's only $130. like you i'm new to the CDD family and hope to have a long relationship here.

A great site that I frequently use for buying scopes for myself and as gifts is:

http://www.eriflescopes.com/ (http://www.eriflescopes.com/)

They have saved me a lot of money over many other websites. Of course you will want to shop their price before you buy, as you should, but they haven't let me down yet and I have purchased 7 scopes from them.
